***LONG ISLAND CHAPTER***
The Long Island Chapter Scholarship Program is designed to assist and encourage members in good standing to achieve a higher level of professionalism in contract management by obtaining education in skills and disciplines supporting acquisition management either in the private or public sector or to assist in supporting the child of a L.I. Chapter NCMA Member in preparing for a career in contracts, business, finance, law, accounting or fields in or related to business management.
One or more scholarships will be awarded each program year. The number of scholarships will depend upon the number of applications received, strength of those applications, and funds available each program year. Scholarships will be granted, as determined in the sole discretion of the Scholarship Committee and approved by the LI Chapter's Board of Directors.
Eligibility Criteria
Applicant must meet the following basic criteria:
Pursuing a degree or courses (either formal education or professional education received by attendance at seminars, workshops, passing NCMA sponsored professional examinations, etc.) consistent with academic disciplines generally deemed relevant to professional acquisition management activities or duties.
For College course applicants: Enrolled for the 2011-2012 scholastic year in an accredited academic institution as either a full-time or part-time student (pursuing at a minimum a three credit course, or its equivalent) in good standing in a program leading to either a baccalaureate or advanced degree.
Agreement to maintain good standing as an NCMA Long Island Chapter member for a period of at least one year after receipt of scholarship and to reimburse the Long Island Chapter for all scholarship funds awarded in the event this condition is not fulfilled.
Application Process
Scholarship applications must include the following:
1. Application Form
2. Transcript
3. Essay
4. Letter of Reference
Application Form: Form must be completed to provide general information about
the applicant to the Scholarship Committee to ensure compliance with basic eligibility
requirements. It also includes a statement of release and request for supporting
information
Transcript: Provide a Transcript from attending college or if applicant is a
high school student from last semester completed
Essay: The Essay must not exceed two pages, typed, double spaced, on your accomplishment
and academic goals, participation in NCMA activities, school activities and
your professional aspirations in one of the fields of business, etc. Also describe
your motivation for accomplishing your goals. If Applicant is NCMA member discuss
how scholarship will be used to achieve a higher level of professionalism in
contract management.
Letter of Reference: Letter of reference from current Long Island Chapter member,
an employer, a faculty member, or someone else who can attest to applicant's
general qualities and accomplishments, such as character, ethics, work performance
and/or academic achievement.
Evaluation and Award

Applications will be evaluated by the Scholarship Committee
and recommendations submitted to the Long Island Chapter Board of Directors
by May 13, 2011. Scholarship winner(s) will be contacted by May 20, 2010. The
scholarship(s) will be awarded at the Awards Dinner (Date TBD).
